Examining violent crime rates

The analysis incorporated a spectrum of violent criminal activities — from murder and non-negligent manslaughter to rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. 

This approach provided a comprehensive viewpoint, unveiling the unseen perils lurking in the cities’ bustling streets and serene neighborhoods.

Daytona Beach: Florida’s hazard epicenter

Daytona Beach emerged as the glaring focal point of criminal activities, securing its notorious position as Florida’s most dangerous city. 

The city witnessed an alarming average of 1,200 violent crimes annually for every 100,000 inhabitants, despite its relatively smaller population compared to other cities on the list.

Homestead’s hefty crime rates

Homestead followed closely, occupying the second spot with over 1,000 recorded crimes per 100,000 residents each year.

The city not only manifested a high crime rate but also notably topped the charts in terms of robbery rates statewide, with an annual average of 416.1 robberies per 100,000 individuals.

Miami Beach: A close third

Miami Beach claimed the third position, with nearly 1,000 reported crimes per 100,000 people annually. 

The city’s streets also witnessed the second-highest number of robberies, maintaining a yearly average of 352.5 incidents.

Other dangerous cities mentioned

Fort Myers and West Palm Beach were identified as the fourth and fifth most perilous cities respectively.

West Palm Beach, with an annual violent crime rate of 854.3 per 100,000 residents, also reported an elevated number of murder and non-negligent manslaughter incidents, surpassing many of its counterparts in the top 10 list.

Weston: A beacon of safety

In contrast, the study highlighted Weston as a city of peace and safety amidst the chaotic landscape, crowning it the safest among the 65 scrutinized cities. 

With a population surpassing 71,000, Weston boasted the lowest rates of murder and non-negligent manslaughter statewide.

Safety beyond Weston

The report also acknowledged other cities radiating a sense of security and tranquility in the Sunshine State. 

Port Orange, Doral, Cape Coral, Port St. Lucie, Palm Beach Gardens, Coconut Creek, Coral Gables, Wellington, and North Port were among those recognized for their lower crime rates and safer environments.
