HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC)— More than a quarter of the population in Bermuda have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 16 percent are fully immunised, officials have said.
The news came as the Ministry of Health reported a single COVID-19 infection in a resident with no links to known cases or recent travel history. There are now 28 active cases.
The ministry said that as of 17th Wednesday, 395 of the approximately 64,000 people living in Bermuda have received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. Of that number, 10,332 had received the two doses required for full immunization, which means 27 percent of the population have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 16 percent are fully immunized.
There were also 2,312 online registrations for the jab from February 28 to March 6, bringing the total to 23,189.
Of those, 45 percent identified as white, 25 percent as black, 19 percent as other and 11 percent mixed.
The latest positive COVID-19 case, the only one out of the 423 latest test results for the virus, is under investigation.
The island now has 28 active cases, all under public health monitoring, with none in hospital.
The total number of cases of the virus since the pandemic began stands at 732, with 692 people recovered.
The death toll over the past 12 months remains 12. Close to 40,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine were sent to Bermuda free of charge by the British government.
