It said while the number of people who have died as a result of the virus remains at 25, the number of active cases in the country since March 19, when the first case was detected, now stands at 765, an increase of 77 on the previous day.

The Ministry of Public Health said that of the 78 new positive cases recorded, 60.2 per cent were men while women have accounted for 39.8 per cent.

It said one person had recovered, bringing the total number to 22 for persons who have overcome the virus, which according to the World Health organisation (WTO) has killed 331, 457 and infected 5.06 million worldwide.

The Ministry said that the number of suspected cases stood at 2,582 with 282 hospitalised and 1,171 under quarantine at home.

Meanwhile, Jamaica, the only other CARICOM country with a high rate of infected persons, said Friday night that the figure now stood at 544 including the 10 new additional cases.

Health authorities said that five of the new cases are from the repatriated Jamaicans who arrived on the cruise ship in Falmouth, Trelawny earlier this week.

Jamaica has 344 active cases of the virus in the country and the number of deaths remains at 17.
