New Caribbean Restaurant Opens in Miami

Newly opened in Miami’s Design District at the St. Roch Market Miami, Kali’s Island Spice is South Florida’s latest Caribbean restaurant with a dash of Latin American offerings.

The restaurant is owned by Jamaican born and raised Chef Alex Powell. Powell has spent 25 years in the restaurant business and attended the New York Restaurant School. He has held Executive Chef and Chef de Cuisine titles at fine-dining spots in DC and the Bahamas, He also worked in the prestiguous kitchens of Miami’s Edition Hotel.

Kali’s Island Spice is Powell’s first solo project, and offers Caribbean cuisine with a Latin twist. The restaurant’s menu is particularly embedded in Jamaican spice and flavors – an ode to the chef’s homeland.

The menu features the likes of spicy jerk chicken, braised oxtail, and mango salad, for example.
