The main opposition People’s National Party (PNP) has condemned the recent assassination attempt on Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.
The apparent attempt took place on the weekend when drones armed with explosives detonated near the president while he was delivering a speech to hundreds of soldiers being broadcast live on television, officials said.
The PNP’s shadow minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade Lisa Hanna, who expressed the condemnation on the party’s behalf, said the Opposition, “Views with concern the attempt on the life of the democratically elected president and condemns violence in all its forms.”
“This represents an attack against a sovereign state, its people and democracy. Those responsible are seeking to use unconstitutional means to deny the choice of the majority of Venezuelans their democratic rights,” Hanna said.
“The People’s National Party expresses its solidarity with the government and people of Venezuela,” she said.
