In an interview with JIS News on Tuesday, Minister McKenzie underscored the historical ties between Jamaica and The Bahamas, tracing back to the aftermath of Hurricane Gilbert.

He highlighted The Bahamas’ pivotal assistance during that trying period as a testament to the enduring solidarity between the two countries.

Joint relief efforts

Moreover, Minister McKenzie emphasized the collaborative efforts between Jamaica and The Bahamas in providing relief aid to neighboring nations in distress.

Notably, the HMBS Lawrence Major, operated by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, played a crucial role in transporting essential supplies to St. Vincent and the Grenadines following the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano in 2021.

Strengthening regional partnerships

Asserting Jamaica’s role as a regional focal point for The Bahamas, Haiti, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, Minister McKenzie expressed his determination to enhance bilateral relations further.
