Jamaica may seek skilled labor overseas to fill existing gaps

In order to meet the demand for skilled labor, Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness has acknowledged that the country may eventually need to seek outside of its labor force. 

However, he has noted that these policies must be taken into consideration given the current rate of economic growth.

Shortage in various sectors

Private corporate groups have bemoaned the lack of competent personnel in several fields during the past two years.

Reports are that stakeholders have emphasized the need for the government to think about establishing an enabling environment that would allow talented workers from other territories to come to Jamaica to fill existing gaps. 

In response to the appeal, the prime minister said that if Jamaica's potential for economic growth continues at its current rate, the nation may need to contemplate a program of controlled and enhanced admission of people from overseas to supplement its labor force.
