The initiative, a collaboration between the School of the Nations and the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), aims to train 3,000 individuals, as announced by President Irfaan Ali.

Rapid enrollment and rigorous training

The training program has already seen significant interest, with 650 participants registering for the intensive one-month course.

This course delivers both theoretical and hands-on training in welding, equipping participants with the necessary skills to excel in the industry.

Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a City and Guilds Certificate, a credential recognized globally, marking a significant step in their professional development.

Expanding reach across regions

During the program’s launch at the School of the Nations, President Ali shared plans to extend this training initiative across all 10 administrative regions of Guyana.

This expansion underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring widespread access to training, thereby maximizing its impact on the nation’s workforce.

Government support and future prospects

President Ali expressed strong support for the program participants, emphasizing the government’s dedication to their success.

He assured them of ongoing support throughout their training and subsequent employment phases, reinforcing the administration’s goal of having every participant gainfully employed by the end of the program.

Collaboration with industry leaders

The initiative has also drawn interest from various oil and gas companies operating in Guyana.

These companies are actively participating in the training sessions, offering a direct link between education and employment opportunities.

This involvement not only enhances the practical aspects of the training but also opens up immediate employment opportunities for the graduates.

Cultivating a unified vision for progress

The training program aligns with the broader “One Guyana” concept, which focuses on mutual upliftment and shared prosperity.

By providing these opportunities, the government aims to foster a spirit of community and collective success, positioning the nation for substantial economic transformation.

Through these concerted efforts, Guyana is not just addressing immediate skill shortages but is also strategically preparing its workforce for future challenges and opportunities in the burgeoning oil and gas sector.
