Uplifting black-owned ventures: SheaMoisture’s Next Black Millionaires program

KAZMALEJE emerged as one of the winners in SheaMoisture’s Next Black Millionaires program, which aims to boost and support Black-owned businesses.

The brand distinguished itself with its groundbreaking approach to haircare, offering innovative tools crafted for effortless styling of textured hair.

Rooted in personal experience: The genesis of KAZMALEJE

The Stirrup sisters initially created KAZMALEJE as a solution to a shared struggle—finding appropriate tools for natural, textured hair.

Frustrated by existing products that led to excessive hair breakage and tangling, they were inspired to think outside the box. This led to the creation of KAZMALEJE’s first product: a signature wide-toothed comb designed to minimize shedding and breakage for various hair textures.

Legacy and heritage: The Stirrup entrepreneurial lineage

The entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in the Stirrup family, rooted in their great-grandfather, E.W.F. Stirrup. A 19th-century immigrant from The Bahamas, he became a prominent Black entrepreneur and real estate developer in Miami’s Coconut Grove.

His legacy continues to inspire the current generation of Stirrups as they carry forth the family tradition of business acumen and innovation.

Central to KAZMALEJE’s appeal is its variety of efficient yet transformative hair tools. Catering to different hair textures—ranging from kinky and coily to softer curls—the sisters have designed tools that are suited for individual needs.

Each sister also brings unique skills to the company, from LaToya’s expertise in product development to LaTrice’s capabilities in logistics and customer service, rounded out by LaTasha’s credentials as a licensed cosmetologist.

Nationwide availability: KAZMALEJE hits retail shelves

Coinciding with the release of “The Next Black Millionaires,” KAZMALEJE’s products have made their way to 600 Target stores across the United States and are available online.

The brand’s reach also extends to the Home Shopping Network, Walmart.com, and SalonCentric, providing more avenues for consumers to access these game-changing hair care tools.

Streaming and outreach: Where to watch “The Next Black Millionaires”

The docuseries is currently available for streaming on The Roku Channel, allowing audiences to witness firsthand the vitality and innovation driving today’s Black business landscape.

In addition to The Roku Channel, the series can be accessed on various Roku devices and online platforms, expanding its reach to a broad and diverse viewership.

KAZMALEJE’s journey and inclusion in “The Next Black Millionaires” not only highlights the brand’s success but also exemplifies the far-reaching impacts of supporting Black-owned businesses. It also serves as an inspirational testament to the ingenuity, resilience, and spirit of entrepreneurship that continue to enrich the Black business community.
