Popular rapper Kodak Black was honored by Jamaican-born Commissioner Dale Holness for his charitable work in Broward County.
On Friday, Holness declared June 11 Kodak Black Day. The Pompano Beach native was honored with the proclamation at a charity basketball tournament to coincide with Kodak Black’s 24th birthday.
The event took place at the Coral Springs Gymnasium and raised $5,000 for the Lippman Youth Shelter in Oakland Park.
During the presentation of the honor, Holness lauded Kodak for his charitable works and accomplishments in the field of music.
The proclamation detailed Kodak’s charitable work over the years, which includes donating a years’ worth of basic items such as diapers, underwear and socks to the Jack & Jill Children’s Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Additionally, Kodak has contributed monetary donations to fuel the holidays for families. He provided funds so community groups could distribute 1,000 turkeys to people in need. He also tapped into his Christmas spirit and donated more than $20,000 to purchase toys and other items to be used as presents.
Kodak’s $100,000 contribution to the “families of fallen FBI agents” was also cited on the proclamation.
The rapper, who is Haitian-American, said the proclamation means more to him than any platinum album.
