In observance of National Recovery Month, the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association (FADAA), in partnership with the Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition and the Palm Beach County Community Services Department Substance Abuse Program, will hold a community listening session on September 28, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the Children’s Services Council, Rooms A & B, 2300 High Ridge Road, Boynton Beach.
One of eight communities
Palm Beach County has been selected as one of eight communities in Florida to host a community listening session, which is part of FADAA’s All for Florida: A Recovery Project, a three-year initiative funded by the Aetna Foundation with the broad goal of building recovery groups into sustainable recovery community organizations (RCOs). RCOs use certified peer recovery specialists to enhance support services within the local recovery network consistent with the guiding principles of a recovery-oriented system of care.
“Mental and substance use disorders affect all communities nationwide,” said Ginny LaRue, director of A Recovery Project at FADAA. “The National Recovery Month observance continues to work to help people achieve long-term recovery. We provide support to communities around the state of Florida and cultivate recovery champions that work toward improving the lives of those affected by mental and/or substance abuse disorders.”
Change the way substantive abuse is seen
“We want to change the way we look at the substance abuse crisis that exists in Palm Beach County,” said Micah Robbins, director of special programs at the Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition. “Palm Beach County has been innovative in addressing the heroin and opioid crisis, and we look forward to continuing our efforts and providing resources to assist those who suffer from addiction.”
This event is intended for persons in recovery, community allies, professionals in the criminal justice and medical fields, faith-based organizations, and in-patient recovery housing entities.
