Haitian PM resigns

Haitian Prime Minister, Enex Jean-Charles, has resigned.

Jean-Charles handed in his letter of resignation to President Jovenel Moïse in order to allow the appointment of his successor.

A resignation of republican courtesy, as suggested by the relatives of the Head of State. From now Jovenel Moïse will enter into discussions with the Presidents of both Houses, as stipulated in the Constitution, to choose the next Head of Government.

The letter of resignation of the Prime Minister read :

“Mr. President of the Republic,

I have the honor to present to you my resignation as Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic.

This resignation of republican courtesy follows your accession to the supreme magistracy of the State, high testimony that the Government I have the honor to lead has faithfully and completely acquitted of its essential missions of restoring the peace of the streets and to organize credible, honest and transparent elections in accordance with the Agreement of 5 February 2016 for institutional continuity and the statement of my general policy approved by the two Houses of Parliament on 24 March 2016.

Also, I find it normal that a new Government be formed with other missions oriented towards the management of the fundamental concerns of the Haitian people.

Please accept, Mr. President of the Republic, the assurance of my highest consideration.
