Buju Banton has announced his upcoming album, Too Too Bad, slated for release on July 17 through VP Records.
The project, which has already generated considerable buzz among fans, is being described as a “real dancehall ting,” signaling a return to the hard-hitting sound that helped cement Buju as one of Jamaica’s most influential musical figures.
Too Too Bad follows the Grammy-winning artist’s 2023 album, Born For Greatness, and marks what is expected to be his latest full-length dancehall offering. The announcement arrives on the heels of the release of Butterflies, the project’s lead single, which dropped last month.
Produced by acclaimed Jamaican producer Supa Dups for Black Chiney Music, “Butterflies” finds Buju riding a refreshed version of the legendary Real Rock riddim. The single was released through Gargamel Music in partnership with VP Records, offering listeners an early taste of what may be in store on the forthcoming album.
The title Too Too Bad is already drawing comparisons to Buju’s acclaimed 2006 album, Too Bad, a project that delivered a string of memorable dancehall tracks, including Try Off A Yuh, Hey Boy and Better Day Coming. For many fans, the new title suggests a deliberate nod to that era, when Buju dominated the charts.
