The government of Japan has announced a contribution of US$10 million to the multinational security support mission in Haiti, reaffirming its commitment to regional peace and stability.
The pledge was made following a meeting between José Ignacio Paliza, Administrative Minister of the Presidency in the Dominican Republic, and Yoshimasa Hayashi, Chief of Staff of the Japanese government. Both officials underscored the importance of a coordinated international response to address the crisis in Haiti.
Paliza stressed that the Dominican Republic remains dedicated to collaborating with the global community to help restore stability in its neighboring nation, noting that Haiti’s challenges directly impact the island of Hispaniola. He added that Japan’s support reinforces collective efforts to tackle the ongoing crisis.
The meeting also marked the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and Japan. Discussions touched on expanding cooperation in trade, culture, and sports, with officials pointing to the Dominican Republic’s potential as a regional hub for Japan.
Highlighting longstanding cultural ties, Paliza referenced the Hiroshima baseball academy in San Pedro de Macorís as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries.
