The Issa Trust Foundation, the charitable arm of Couples Resorts, has been spotlighted in the American Academy of Pediatrics’ (AAP) Global Health Newsletter for its leadership in advancing neonatal care in Jamaica.
The foundation was recognized for its pivotal role in launching the Neonatal Nurses’ Essential Training and Skills (NNETS) Program at Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Kingston. Developed in collaboration with the Southeast Regional Health Authority, the MERU Foundation, and neonatology experts from the United States, the program focuses on strengthening hands-on neonatal care through targeted training and strategic partnerships.
Diane Pollard, President of the Issa Trust Foundation, described the recognition as a “meaningful honor” and added that it “shines a light on the collective work being done in Jamaica and affirms that our efforts are part of a larger, global movement to improve the lives of children through equitable, sustainable health care.”
The AAP, a professional organization dedicated to the well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, praised the initiative as a model of international collaboration aimed at delivering measurable, long-term improvements in pediatric healthcare.
