In a move to bolster Jamaica’s healthcare infrastructure, AdventHealth and Andrews Memorial Hospital have officially handed over 70 fully functioning hospital beds, valued at approximately J$27.7 million, to the Ministry of Health & Wellness.
The donation, which took place on April 10, marks the second time the Seventh-day Adventist healthcare institutions have made such a contribution to the ministry. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the GSI Foundation, the charitable arm of the Adventist Church in Jamaica, which coordinated the importation of the beds.
Donmayne Gyles, president and CEO of Andrews Memorial Hospital, emphasized the importance of the donation, stating, “Together, as an Adventist Church community, we are committed to supporting the Ministry of Health and Wellness in any way we can to strengthen Jamaica’s healthcare infrastructure.”
AdventHealth, based in the United States, is one of the largest non-profit healthcare systems in the country, operating over 50 hospitals and hundreds of care sites. Rooted in the healing ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the organization focuses on whole-person care—addressing body, mind, and spirit—and often partners with faith-based and international initiatives to improve health outcomes in communities around the world.
The handover reflects the Adventist community’s ongoing commitment to improving healthcare services across the island.
