In response to a recent incident that left one student dead and another injured, Jamaica’s Minister of National Security, Hon. Dr. Horace Chang, has declared a zero-tolerance stance on crime affecting students and the educational environment.
The incident occurred as two students were returning home from sports day activities, leading to a 16-year-old boy’s death and injuries to his 15-year-old female companion.
Dr. Chang emphasized that the government would respond forcefully to protect students from being caught in criminal activities.
Ministerial visit to reassure the school community
Accompanied by the Minister of Education and Youth, Hon. Fayval Williams, Dr. Chang was part of a ministerial delegation that visited Grange Hill High School in Westmoreland.
The visit aimed to reassure school administrators, students, and residents that the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and order is unwavering.
Minister Williams highlighted the Ministry’s dedication to supporting the school with guidance and counseling resources to prevent future incidents.

The Commissioner of Police, Dr. Kevin Blake, reassured the community of the police’s resolute approach to protect students and combat criminality.

During the visit, Samuel Williams, the Board Chairman, addressed the school community with a heartfelt message about overcoming challenges and violence.
