In a monumental step towards academic collaboration, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (UWI), has lauded the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Africa’s North-West University as “historic and emotional”.
Professor Beckles emphasized the deep-rooted connection between the Caribbean and South Africa, citing shared struggles against Apartheid as a testament to their solidarity.

Highlighting striking resemblances in structure and vision, Vice-Chancellor Beckles underscored the parallel trajectories of the two institutions.
Both universities boast multi-campus setups, with The UWI spanning five campuses and North-West University encompassing three.
Additionally, similarities in demographic makeup and student population size further solidify their kinship.
