In a vibrant celebration marking the commencement of the 100-day countdown to the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup, cricketing legends Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo lent their star power to promotional activities in Bridgetown, Barbados, and New York City, USA.
The duo, both former West Indies captains and past tournament winners, lauded the upcoming event as “out of this world”.
The festivities, held on Thursday, saw Gayle and Bravo participate in a series of events highlighting the countdown to the tournament. A parade through the colorful streets of Bridgetown, culminating in the Golden Square Freedom Park, captivated audiences with its spectacle of color and music, with Gayle at the forefront of the celebrations.
Expressing his anticipation for the tournament, Gayle, affectionately known as the “Universe Boss”, underscored the stellar line-up of cricketing talent set to grace the event. Meanwhile, in New York City, Dwayne Bravo and former England pacer Liam Plunkett took center stage, treating local fans and players to a display of power-hitting sixes in Times Square. Bravo, echoing Gayle’s sentiments, expressed his excitement for the historic event, highlighting its significance in elevating cricket’s popularity in the USA and the West Indies.
As the countdown began, promotional events unfolded across the Caribbean nations of Guyana, Trinidad, Antigua, and St. Vincent, as well as in the American cities of Dallas and Miami. The launch of the 100-day countdown also marked the unveiling of the official campaign film, ‘Out of this World’, featuring T20 superstars like Kieron Pollard and Ali Khan.
