Barbadian cricketer Jonathan Carter showcased his batting prowess with a masterful unbeaten century, guiding the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) to a competitive total of 260 for seven on the opening day of their clash against the Jamaica Scorpions in the West Indies Championship.
Sent in to bat first by Scorpions captain Jermaine Blackwood, CCC faced early setbacks, losing both openers cheaply. However, Carter’s resilient knock turned the tide in favor of CCC as he anchored the innings with a polished display of batting at Sabina Park.
Facing 182 deliveries, Carter crafted an impressive 108 not out, striking 12 boundaries along the way to steer his team to a respectable total. His innings was characterized by elegant strokes and calculated shot selection, earning him praise from teammates and spectators alike.
CCC’s middle order rallied around Carter
Despite early wickets falling, CCC’s middle order rallied around Carter to stabilize the innings. Shamarh Brooks provided valuable support with a determined 36, while Sion Hackett contributed a crucial 30 to bolster the team’s total.
Carter’s century proved to be the cornerstone of CCC’s batting effort, as he skilfully manoeuvered the innings and capitalized on scoring opportunities. His milestone moment came with a well-timed shot down the ground, signaling his team’s resilience and determination.
Lower-order batsman Zishan Motara joined Carter in a partnership that saw CCC finish the day on a strong note. Motara’s unbeaten 28, complemented by Carter’s century, showcased CCC’s depth and resilience in the face of the Scorpions’ bowling attack.

Seamers Gordon Bryan, Ojay Shields, and leg-spinner Abhijai Mansingh claimed crucial wickets for the Scorpions, but Carter’s stellar innings remained the highlight of the day’s play.
In other West Indies Championship encounters, the Windward Islands Volcanoes dominated proceedings against the Barbados Pride, reaching 123 without loss in reply to the Pride’s 214 all out. Meanwhile, the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force were 128 for three against the West Indies Academy, while the Leeward Islands Hurricanes posted 299 for six against the Guyana Harpy Eagles.
