In an official announcement, Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño, revealed that Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Courtenay is set to step down from his role after dedicating three years to public service.
Courtenay, a legal practitioner, has decided to return to his private legal practice.
The Office of the Prime Minister has confirmed that Minister Courtenay will officially demit office at the end of this month.
Leader of Government business in the senate
While resigning from his position as Foreign Affairs Minister, Eamon Courtenay will retain a vital role within the Belizean political arena.
He is slated to continue as the Leader of Government Business in the Senate, ensuring that the government’s legislative priorities and initiatives are effectively managed and advanced.
Continued cabinet privileges
Despite his departure from the post of Foreign Affairs Minister, Courtenay will retain his privileges within the Cabinet.
He will also retain overall responsibility for Belize’s two cases currently before the International Court of Justice.
