Locals at Margaritaville Nassau invite visitors to celebrate Bahamas Independence

As The Bahamas prepares to celebrate its 52nd Independence Day on July 10, locals at Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau are encouraging travelers to go beyond the beach and dive into the island’s vibrant culture, traditions, and national pride.

While the resort is known for its laid-back luxury, what truly sets it apart—especially during Independence celebrations—is the passion and pride of its local Bahamian team, who are eager to share their customs, cuisine, and spirit with guests.

“Today’s travelers seek authentic cultural immersion—experiences that go beyond sun and sand,” said the resort in a statement. “While Margaritaville embraces its lifestyle, the core of its pride comes from the people who make the resort special.”

A Taste of Bahamian Tradition

Chef Geshann Pratt, Executive Pastry Chef, is bringing the flavors of the islands straight to guests’ plates.

“The flavors of the Bahamas come alive on Independence Day!” he said. “This year, I’m crafting special coconut and pineapple tarts, chilled soursop popsicles, and a unique soursop mousse or panna cotta—exclusive for guests. Visitors will savor the authentic taste of the Bahamas, all made with love and island pride.”

Cultural Celebrations Just Minutes Away

Shirlen Godet, Marketing Manager, says the spirit of Independence is best captured through community celebration.

“Independence Day gives us the freedom to express our Bahamian identity and welcome the world to enjoy our culture,” she said. “I love encouraging guests to take part in classic celebrations like the Military Tattoo & Cultural Show, just five minutes from the resort! It’s the perfect way for visitors to experience Bahamian music, a dramatic police demonstration, a speech from the Prime Minister, and more, surrounded by proud locals.”

A Nation of Color, Creativity, and Connection

Jasper Hayward, from the resort’s Marketing & Sales team, shared her favorite part of the holiday.

“To see Nassau cloaked in the vibrant colors of our flag—on hats, bandanas, and tumblers—makes the day even brighter,” he said. “We share traditional foods like rice and peas, snapper, conch, and sweet guava pastries with our families and guests. Beyond the festivities, I want guests to know there’s a rich seam of art, creativity, and entertainment waiting to be discovered on every island.”

Feel the Rhythm of Junkanoo

Antonecia Sweeting, Assistant Director of Sales, described the Independence festivities as the “heartbeat” of the nation.

“Independence Day is the heartbeat of our nation—reminding us we are small but mighty,” she said. “We encourage our guests to experience the unforgettable joy and rhythm of Junkanoo—colorful costumes, energetic music, and lively dancing that invite everyone to join in the celebration. It’s a unique chance for visitors to feel the pulse of Bahamian culture, connect with our local traditions firsthand, and create memories that add richness to their luxury resort experience.”

As the country gets ready to mark more than five decades of independence, Margaritaville Beach Resort Nassau offers guests a front-row seat to the festivities—blending five-star comfort with a truly local experience that honors the people, passion, and pride of The Bahamas.
