Jamaica is set to benefit from increased air connectivity this summer as Spirit Airlines announces the return of its nonstop service between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay.
Beginning July 11, 2025, the service will operate three times weekly—on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays—making travel to Jamaica even more convenient for U.S. East Coast travelers.
The move has been welcomed by Jamaica’s tourism leaders, who see the route as both a reflection of the island’s growing popularity and a strategic boost to its tourism sector.
“This nonstop flight from Baltimore highlights Jamaica’s rising popularity as a top travel destination, while also reinforcing the economic and cultural connections between our island and the U.S. East Coast,” said Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism. “The reintroduction of this route not only improves access from an important U.S. region but also increases our seating capacity to accommodate the growing demand for travel to Jamaica this summer.”
Director of Tourism Donovan White echoed the sentiment, adding, “We are excited to resume this Spirit Airlines service, which makes it even more convenient for travelers from the U.S. East Coast to explore Jamaica. We eagerly anticipate welcoming more guests and giving them the chance to enjoy our beautiful beaches, vibrant culture, award-winning food, and iconic music.”
John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, emphasized the airline’s commitment to providing travelers with affordable access to desirable destinations. “We’re all about getting our Guests to the places they want to go most, and Montego Bay is a great destination for travelers looking to enjoy a warm, Caribbean getaway. The service connecting the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area (BWI) to Jamaica will make it easier for visitors to explore the island and nicely complements our existing service from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO).”
As Jamaica continues to position itself as a premier global travel destination, the expansion and resumption of key airlift routes remain central to the country’s tourism growth strategy. The return of Spirit’s BWI-MBJ service is expected to drive increased visitor arrivals and support the island’s ongoing efforts toward sustainable economic development through tourism.
