The Cayman Islands is preparing to welcome a unique visitor — a newly selected “Chief Relaxation Officer” tasked with embracing island life for 14 nights as part of a wellness-focused experience designed to showcase the destination’s laid-back appeal.
The role comes with refreshingly simple expectations: sleep at least eight hours daily, take additional naps when needed, dine with locals to learn time-honored relaxation rituals, and spend time in the water each day.
During the stay, the Chief Relaxation Officer will spend part of their visit at The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. Inspired by the upcoming sojourn, members of the resort’s team — all Grand Cayman locals — have shared insider tips on how visitors can truly unwind while on the island.
Most Relaxing Spots On Property
Yarlin Faurer, Spa Director, recommends the resort’s Hibiscus Spa, where soothing music and calming aromas set the tone, along with the nearby spa cabana offering uninterrupted views of Grand Cayman’s turquoise waters.
Michael Zolcak, General Manager of Outdoor Operations & Spa, suggests reserving a private luxury cabana, best enjoyed with a frozen cocktail, followed by sunset views from Tortuga Beach Grill & Bar.
Front Office Manager Tiffany Claire Medalla highlights shaded beach cabanas just steps from the ocean, where gentle waves and open sea views create a peaceful and private escape.
Norbert Szalay, Food & Beverage Manager, recommends relaxing in the resort’s lobby overlooking the beach, offering sweeping views of the shoreline.
How to Relax at The Westin Grand Cayman
Faurer recommends an oceanfront massage in a spa cabana paired with quiet time overlooking the water.
Zolcak suggests a 90-minute beachside massage followed by lounging in an oceanfront beach pod, or simply relaxing poolside or on the beach with a book and cocktail.
Szalay advises a rejuvenating spa treatment followed by a leisurely Sunday brunch at Ferdinand’s, which he describes as one of the island’s best.
Best Ways to Unwind On-Island
Beyond the resort, staff members also shared their favorite ways to relax across Grand Cayman.
Faurer recommends visiting Pedro St. James for a peaceful, culturally rich experience offering insight into the island’s history.
Zolcak suggests a Jet Ski Snorkel Safari or Sunset Sail with Red Sail Sports, both of which can be arranged directly on-property.
Szalay highlights a Sunset Cruise with Red Sail Sports, kitesurfing at Barker’s Beach, snorkeling at Cemetery Beach, or a sunset “Toes in the Sand” dinner on Seven Mile Beach at Beach House Restaurant, the resort’s AAA Four-Diamond dining venue.
With the Chief Relaxation Officer set to arrive soon, the initiative underscores the Cayman Islands’ growing focus on wellness tourism — inviting travelers to slow down, recharge, and embrace the art of relaxation in one of the Caribbean’s most tranquil destinations.
