In a bid to boost regional tourism and enhance connectivity within the Caribbean, Cayman Airways has embarked on a new journey, inaugurating its maiden flight on the recently established route to Barbados.
The flight, which took off on Wednesday morning, is set to become a pivotal link in the Caribbean air travel network.
This initiative comes as a response to a request from Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), and although specific financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, it is apparent that BTMI has made a significant financial commitment to support the venture.
Charting a new course amidst varying expectations
This weekly scheduled service, which commenced operations in sync with the 2023 Barbados Food and Rum Festival, holds great promise for bolstering tourism and travel convenience within the region.
Cayman Islands’ Tourism Minister, Kenneth Bryan, expressed his optimism, emphasizing the value of BTMI’s financial backing in turning this vision into reality.
Fostering regional cooperation
Kenneth Bryan, who also chairs the Caribbean Tourism Organization, underscored the significance of this collaboration in terms of connecting not only the Cayman Islands but the wider Caribbean with Barbados. He stressed that this new air service represents a milestone in strengthening connectivity between the Eastern and Western Caribbean regions.
It stands as a testament to the potential unlocked when Caribbean nations join forces, promising positive impacts for both countries and the broader Caribbean.
A collaborative effort takes flight
John-Paul Clarke, Chairperson of Cayman Airways, credited BTMI’s support as instrumental in launching this venture and expressed enthusiasm about the sustained growth and success of the route.
The nonstop service between the Cayman Islands and Barbados has been timed to facilitate seamless connections to the Eastern Caribbean and Europe through Grantley Adams International Airport.
Expanding horizons for connectivity
Clarke further noted that this service offers convenient connections to Los Angeles via Grand Cayman, effectively bridging the West Coast of the United States with the Eastern Caribbean.
Moreover, the flight schedule has been strategically synchronized with other Cayman Airways destinations, paving the way for increased opportunities in business travel, tourism, and cultural exchange, ultimately strengthening regional bonds.
A new era of convenience
Craig Hinds, Acting CEO of BTMI, hailed this new direct service as a symbol of innovation and collaboration that defines the region.
He emphasized the commitment to providing more convenient and efficient travel options across the Caribbean, addressing historical challenges associated with complex connecting flights and layovers.
This direct route is poised to simplify travel for those from the Northern Caribbean, offering a smoother path to experience the hospitality and offerings of Barbados.
