American Airlines is strengthening its footprint in Jamaica with new nonstop service from Ian Fleming International Airport in Boscobel, St Mary, and expanded flights from Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport to Miami, beginning December 18—just in time for the winter tourist season.
The new schedule will include two daily flights to and from the Ian Fleming airport and four daily flights from Kingston to Miami, a key hub for the Jamaican diaspora.
“As the largest US airline in Jamaica, we are thrilled to continue expanding our presence with even more service to Kingston and Ocho Rios,” said Jose A. Freig, vice president of International and Inflight Dining Operations, in a statement on Friday. “We have had significant growth in our Jamaican operations for this summer, and we look forward to even more flying in the winter, highlighting American’s almost 50-year commitment to Jamaica’s travel industry and our local partners.”
With these additions, American Airlines will offer more flights to Jamaica than any other airline, further solidifying its leading position in the market.
The expansion builds on the airline’s robust summer schedule, which features 15 peak daily flights to Jamaica from three U.S. gateways, marking a 17% increase in capacity for the season.
Looking ahead to winter, American plans to operate more than 20 peak daily departures from Jamaica to seven U.S. cities: Boston, Charlotte, Dallas-Fort Worth, New York, Miami, Chicago, and Philadelphia. This represents a 20% year-over-year increase in winter capacity.
The move reflects growing demand for travel between Jamaica and the United States, especially as more visitors explore less-served areas like St Mary, while maintaining strong links with major cities like Kingston.
