KINGSTON, Jamaica — The inaugural Jamaica Invitational Squash Tournament continued its electrifying momentum on Thursday at the Liguanea Club, with top-seeded players extending their commanding performances in a showcase of skill, strategy, and athleticism.
On the women’s side, number-one seed Mehar Trehan maintained her impeccable form, overpowering Kerry-Gay Wright in straight sets with a resounding 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 victory. Trehan’s flawless run cements her status as the tournament favorite, as her precise strokes and unwavering control left little room for her opponent to maneuver.
The men’s draw saw top-seeded Ashante Smith rise to the occasion, following a first-round bye, with a confident display against Trinidadian challenger Leonel Sorrillo. Despite a competitive start, Smith’s relentless pace proved too much for Sorrillo, as the match ended in straight sets with scores of 14-12, 11-5, 11-4.

In the women’s draw, Sanjana Nallapati (#2) demonstrated her dominance, defeating Tracey Binnie (#3) 11-6, 11-3, 11-2 to claim her second consecutive win, and Elle Wilson (#4) secured her first tournament win with a commanding straight-sets victory over Priya Stoddart, earning scores of 11-6, 11-9, 11-4.
Meanwhile, in men’s draw, Bruce Burrowes (#2) made light work of Fitzroy Smith (#8), cruising to an 11-3, 11-3, 11-5 triumph. Jonathan Hope (Bahamas) stunned the number-three seed, Jerazeno Bell, in a four-set thriller. After dropping the first set, Hope roared back to win 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5, remaining undefeated in the tournament.
Stephan Morrison (#4) edged out Tobias Levy (#6) in a nail-biting five-setter that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Morrison’s 8-11, 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5 victory showcased his endurance and tactical brilliance.
Mario O’Connor capped off the day with a decisive straight-sets win over Andre Wright, scoring 11-4, 11-3, 11-9.
