Saint Lucia’s women’s volleyball team showcased their prowess by clinching the 2024 Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Women’s Championship title, overcoming Bermuda in a decisive 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-22, 25-19) in the final held at the YMCA Sports Complex in St. John’s, Antigua & Barbuda, recently.
After a narrow pool-play loss to Bermuda earlier in the tournament, Saint Lucia returned with determination, securing victories in all remaining matches and topping the standings. Bermuda faltered in their journey, losing to Grenada, while Saint Lucia powered through their fixtures, dropping just three sets throughout the preliminary rounds—two to Bermuda and one to Antigua & Barbuda.
The champions walked away with an impressive five individual awards. Kerin Neptune, who had previously earned MVP honors in 2022, was again named Most Valuable Player and one of the top outside hitters. Tyna William captured the award for best middle blocker, Cindy Wilson excelled as best setter, and Tenayestlgni Joseph took home the title of best digger.
The championship included six teams: host Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, Sint Maarten, and finalists Bermuda and Saint Lucia. With the men’s ECVA Championship on the horizon, Saint Lucia will look to add another title as the men’s team competes in a field of 10 teams from October 23-28.
