Ethan Pinnock, one of Brentford’s standout performers in their 2-0 victory over Chelsea, believes that the team executed their game-plan to perfection against their Premier League rivals on Saturday.
Despite Chelsea enjoying 69 per cent possession, Brentford displayed defensive resilience and an effective cutting edge at Stamford Bridge, securing their third consecutive win at the venue with second-half goals from Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo.
Pinnock, who earned the Player of the Match accolade for his performance, played a crucial role in Brentford’s defensive solidity, making two tackles, nine clearances, and winning four aerial duels. This stellar defensive effort resulted in a second consecutive clean sheet for Brentford, following their 3-0 victory over Burnley in the previous weekend.
Reflecting on the victory, the Reggae Boy Pinnock expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It feels great. We knew it was going to be really tough because they’ve been playing really well these last few weeks, but we stayed in the game, we stayed compact, and we managed to frustrate them.”
Effective communication
He also praised the communication and teamwork within the Brentford defense, mentioning key contributors Kris Ajer and Nath Collins. Effective communication among the players was crucial in maintaining focus and concentration throughout the match.
Regarding his own goal in the 59th minute, Pinnock highlighted the importance of set-pieces in Brentford’s game-plan. Mathias Jensen initiated the move by delivering a precise ball down the wing to Bryan Mbeumo, who then provided an accurate cross to the far post for Pinnock to head home.
“We knew we’d be dangerous from set-pieces and on the counter, and it’s worked out today,” Pinnock explained. He also revealed that they had worked on a throw-in routine, emphasizing the significance of timing and execution. Pinnock commended Bryan Mbeumo for delivering an excellent cross that allowed him to make a well-timed header.
