Record-breaking Cedicka Williams leads Jamaica’s brilliance in field events at Penn Relays

Cedricka Williams of Holmwood Technical High School highlighted the outstanding performances of Jamaica’s athletes in the field events on Friday’s second day at the 127^th Penn Relays Carnival at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Williams led the Jamaicans who won three of the five high school girls’ field events in which they participated and in doing so she established a new Penn Relays record in the Discus Throw Championship.

On her fourth attempt she registered 57.23m to erase the previous record of 54.72m set by Excelsior’s Shanice Love in 2016.

St Jago High School’s Abigail Martin finished second with a throw of 54.54m, with Britannie Johnson of Camperdown High School claiming third place with 47.33m.

Excelsior’s Najhada Seymour (45.57m) was fifth; Maja Henry of Immaculate Conception (39.26m) was 10^th; and Shamara Richards of Clarendon College (36.57m) finished in 15^th place.

Camperdown’s Britannia Johnson won the High School Girls’ Shot Put Championship with 14.04m ahead of Jessica Oji of Livingston out of New Jersey with 13.86m.

Rochele Solmon of Edwin Allen High School took third place with 13.57m, and Immaculate’s Juliet Smith finished fourth with 13.00m.

There was a third victory for Jamaica through Jade-Ann Dawkins of St Jago High School in the High School Girls Triple Jump Championship.

Dawkins registered 13.02m, as Jade-Ann Smith of Excelsior finished in 12^th place with 11.26m and Tawani Murray of Petersfield claiming 15^th place with 10.99m. Celine Riddle of Holmwood Technical did not compete.

In the High School Girls’ Long Jump Championship, Mount Alvernia’s Aaliyah Foster could fare no better than third place with 5.78m. St Elizabeth Technical High School’s (STETHS) Richelle Stanley was fourth with 5.71m, with Jada Kamtha of Wolmer’s Girls taking 13^th position with 5.34m, Shinelle Jhagroo Bryan of Manchester High was 14^th with 5.34m and Rohana Sudlow of St Catherine) finished in 15^th place with 5.31m.

Omarian Constable of Excelsior dot not start.

Aaliyah Willary of Rhodes Hall was second in the High School Girls’ High Jump after soaring to 1.70m, the same distance as Shanniqua Williams of Wolmer’s Girls’ School.

Deijanae Bruce of Edwin Allen registered the same distance to finish in fourth place, while Malaika Cunningham of Wolmer’s was sixth with 1.65m, the same distance as Vere Technical’s Torian Caven in seventh place.

Brishawn Grant of Holmwood Technical finished in 14^th place with 1.60m.
