Rain forces no-result in exciting CG United Regional Super50 opener

The opening match of the 2023 CG United Regional Super50 tournament between TT Red Force and Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) ended in a frustrating no-result due to persistent rain at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair on Tuesday.

Despite the weather challenges, just over 50 overs were bowled during the contest.

CCC chose to field first after winning the toss, and TT Red Force managed to put up a competitive total of 246 for four in 44 overs. Rain delays intermittently interrupted their innings. Red Force’s captain, Darren Bravo, led by example with an unbeaten 81 runs from 84 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. His innings fell just short of what could have been the tournament’s first century.

Bravo found able partners during his time at the crease. He shared an 88-run partnership with Jason Mohammed (43 off 61 balls) for the fourth wicket and an unbeaten 66-run stand with Yannic Cariah (31 not out off 38 balls) for the fifth wicket.

TT Red Force’s innings received an early boost during the power play, thanks to Joshua Da Silva’s elegant 48 off 50 balls. Despite a dropped catch on his first ball, Da Silva capitalized on the opportunity, displaying fine shots and nine boundaries in his innings.

Bravo, Mohammed steady ship after early stumble

The partnership between Bravo and Mohammed helped steady the ship after an initial stumble. Bravo reached his half-century, but was put down once again before Mohammed’s dismissal. Yannic Cariah joined Bravo in the middle to continue the recovery.

However, a rain delay disrupted TT Red Force’s late push, and the game was reduced to 44 overs per side. They finished their innings at 246 for four.

With a revised target of 275 for victory, CCC’s openers, Johann Jeremiah (25 not out off 23 balls) and Kadeem Alleyne (27 not out off 17 balls), started strongly, reaching 53 without loss in just 6.4 overs. Unfortunately, heavy rain forced an early end to the proceedings at 3:00 pm, and the match was eventually called off at approximately 4:00 pm.

Both teams were awarded two points each for the no-result in this rain-marred encounter.
