Olympic veteran Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce prepares for last hurrah in Paris

Jamaica’s women’s captain Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has started training in Paris, gearing up for her fifth and final Olympic Games at Paris 2024.

The eight-time Olympic medalist arrived in the French capital earlier this week and has been training at the Complexe Sportiff de I’ile des Vannes, one of the official Paris 2024 training centers.

Fraser-Pryce, who has raced sparingly this season, began her campaign on June 15 at a meet in Kingston. The triple Olympic champion then competed at the Jamaican National Championships, where she secured her spot on the team by finishing third in the 100m, behind Shericka Jackson and Tia Clayton.

Slight discomfort during warmups

On July 16, she withdrew from the World Athletics Continental Tour meet in Lucerne, Switzerland, due to slight discomfort during warmups. Despite this setback, the 37-year-old 10-time world champion remains focused on her goal of competing in her final Olympics.

Teaming up with Shericka Jackson, Tia Clayton, and Forbes Shashalee, Fraser-Pryce aims to help Jamaica retain the 100m title won by Elaine Thompson-Herah at Tokyo 2020. Fraser-Pryce, along with her teammates, will compete in the 100m qualifying round on Friday, August 2, with hopes of advancing to the semi-finals and finals the following day.

As she prepares for her last Olympic appearance, Fraser-Pryce’s dedication and experience will be crucial in her quest to add another gold medal to her illustrious career. The Paris 2024 Olympics promise to be a fitting stage for this legendary sprinter’s final bow.
