Jamaica’s world champion sprinter, Shericka Jackson, is set to return to action this Thursday at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway. This event marks the sixth stop on the Wanda Diamond League schedule and Jackson’s second appearance in the 200 metres this season.
Jackson, 29, commenced her 200m campaign with a victory in Marrakech on May 19, clocking in at 22.82 seconds. This win extends her unbeaten streak in the 200m, which dates back to June 2022. Building on her impressive form, Jackson aims to continue her dominance in the event, having secured Diamond Trophies in both the 100m and 200m last year.
Since the Tokyo Olympics, Jackson has shown remarkable progress, clinching gold in the 200m at the last two World Athletics Championships and establishing herself as the second-fastest woman ever in the half-lap race. There is growing anticipation that Jackson might finally break Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 1988 world record of 21.34 seconds this year.
Eight other Jamaicans are slated to compete
The Oslo Diamond League presents a significant challenge for Jackson as she faces a competitive field that includes three-time African champion Marie-Josee Ta Lou-Smith, Great Britain’s in-form Daryll Neita, and a trio of fast Americans: Jenna Prandini, Brittany Brown, and Anavia Battle.
In addition to Jackson, eight other Jamaicans are slated to compete in Oslo: Fedrick Dacres (discus), Yohan Blake (100m), Rohan Watson (100m), Natoya Goule-Toppin (800m), Rushell Clayton (400m hurdles), Andrenette Knight (400m hurdles), Janieve Russell (400m hurdles), Rusheen McDonald (400m).
Jackson’s participation in Oslo will be closely watched as she continues her quest for excellence and potentially historic performances in the 200 metres.
