The grand event, hosted at the Faith Center in Sunrise, Florida, and sponsored by the Housing Foundation of America, recognized outstanding individuals and organizations within the community. It also paid homage to luminaries in both the music industry and the world of sports.

Coach Glen Mills was accorded special recognition for his monumental contributions to the realm of track and field. Alongside him, Consul General R Oliver Mair received the esteemed President’s Award for his exceptional service.

Mills has over 50 years in track and field

Mills, whose illustrious career as a track and field coach spans five decades, has played an instrumental role in nurturing some of Jamaica’s most remarkable sprinters. Notable among his protégés is Usain Bolt. The world record holder in the 100m and 200m, an eight-time Olympic Games gold medallist, and an 11-time world champion.

Mills also mentored Yohan Blake, who in 2011 became the youngest man to win a 100m world title, and Warren Weir, the 2012 Olympic Games 200m bronze medallist. Additionally, Mills guided Raymond Stewart to the Olympic Games 100m final at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, a significant achievement considering Stewart’s emergence from Camperdown High School, where Mills began cultivating a legacy that would later be dubbed “The Sprint Factory.”

Oblique Seville finishes fourth at the last two World Champs

Currently, Mills serves as the coach of Oblique Seville, who achieved an impressive fourth place in the 100m finals in both the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships.

Established in 2015 by Lecturer/Businessman Dr. Allan Cunningham, the People Profile Awards endeavor to honor individuals whose stories inspire, motivate, or educate while also championing character causes.

Under the theme “Together we are stronger”, the People Profile Organization joined forces with the University of Fort Lauderdale, aligning their vision to emphasize people, education, and community. This partnership promises to leave a lasting impact on the community.

The 2023 People Profile Awards were marked by an evening of entertainment, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all attendees. The ceremony encompassed 16 categories, including the “Humanitarian”, “Media”, “Sportsman of the Year”, and “Courage” Awards.
