BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – In a significant leadership shift for West Indies cricket, Roston Chase has been appointed the new captain of the men’s Test team, becoming the 10th Barbadian to earn the prestigious role.

His appointment comes at a pivotal time for the regional side, with a daunting home Test series against world number one Australia looming large on the horizon, beginning June 25.

After four years at the helm, former captain Kraigg Brathwaite abruptly stepped down from the leadership post on March 31, leaving big shoes to fill. But rather than stepping away quietly, Brathwaite has chosen to use his voice—and his platform—to lift up his successor.

In a statement posted on social media, Brathwaite offered not just congratulations but a stirring endorsement of Chase’s character and readiness to lead.

“I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Roston Chase on his appointment as the new West Indies Test captain.

Wearing the maroon and leading this proud team in the longest format of the game is no easy task – I know that better than most,” Brathwaite said.
