The WSL top scorer, Shaw grabbed a hat-trick in our 3-1 comeback win over Spurs and followed that up with a brace in a hard-fought 2-1 triumph away to Brighton the following week.
It’s the second time she has claimed the prize, having also been named Player of the Month for November.
Her vital intervention in that victory over the Seagulls brought about another impressive milestone for the forward, as she became the highest-scoring women’s player across a single campaign, surpassing the record previously held by Nikita Parris.
And while she was unable to add to her impressive tally in City’s third and final league fixture of the month, Khadija Shaw still played an influential role in a 2-0 triumph over reigning champions Chelsea at the Academy Stadium.
The Jamaican fended off the sizeable challenges of West Ham’s Viviane Asseyi, Aston Villa’s Rachel Daly, Liverpool’s Emma Koivisto and Arsenal duo Leah Williamson and Caitlin Foord for the award.
The 24-year-old, better known as “Bunny” was born in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Shaw’s foray into the game started with Eastern Florida State College Titans where she earned NSCAA first-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-America honors in 2016.
Transferring to the University of Tennessee in 2017, she was named in the All-SEC first team in both her seasons there alongside being awarded the SEC Offensive Player of the Year accolade in 2018.
Also figuring for WPSL side Florida Krush, the forward moved to France in the summer of 2019 and made her professional debut against FC Fleury 91 in August of that year, scoring twice in a 4-1 win.
Finding the back of the net ten times in 15 appearances in her first season at the club, Shaw didn’t rest on her laurels and scored 24 times in 21 appearances in all competitions in 2020/21.
Also a seasoned international with her homeland of Jamaica, the 5ft 11in forward represented her country at various youth levels before making her debut for the senior side in a 6-0 win over the Dominican Republic in August 2015, scoring twice in that fixture.
Since then, she has recorded an impressive 42 goals in 30 appearances for the Reggae Girlz – making her their all-time leading goalscorer.
Now #21 on Manchester City’s team, Shaw sports her nickname ‘Bunny’ on the back of her City shirt, having affectionately been given the name by her older brother Kentardo for her love of carrots.
Grabbing 19 goals in her debut season at City, the Jamaican has taken her game to new levels in 2022/23.
Indeed, Shaw’s first strike (her 25th of the season) in a 2-1 win over Brighton in March 2023 saw her become the highest-scoring women’s player across a single season in our history.
