Jamaican football sensation Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, who plies her trade with Manchester City Women, has expressed her appreciation for the significant impact of club legend Shaun Goater on her flourishing career.
Shaw, a 26-year-old striker from Spanish Town, joined Manchester City two years ago after an impressive stint with French side Bordeaux. Since then, she has formed a strong rapport with Shaun Goater, who now serves as a member of manager Gareth Taylor’s coaching staff.
Goater, a Bermudian football legend, enjoyed a prolific spell with Manchester City between 1998 and 2003, during which he scored 103 goals in 212 appearances. He has been instrumental in providing valuable guidance to Shaw, sharing insights that have enhanced her performance on the field.
Their partnership has been mutually beneficial
Shaw lauded Goater’s contributions, emphasizing how his advice, even on minor details, has been instrumental in her development. She recounted an early piece of advice Goater offered, which was to “try not to let the center-backs see you and the ball.” Shaw found that these small details made a significant difference in her approach to the game and her training.
As Goater became more involved with Shaw’s development, she expressed her excitement about the opportunity to work more closely with him on the pitch. Their partnership has been mutually beneficial, with Goater’s vast knowledge and experience in football proving invaluable to Shaw’s career.
Shaun Goater has been a part of Manchester City’s Academy coaching staff for two years, working with various age groups, from foundational levels to professional development. With a UEFA ‘A’ license and experience working with other clubs, including Doncaster Rovers and St Johnstone, Goater has played a pivotal role in honing the skills of young talents.
