This event is set to honor the achievements of Jamaica’s athletes from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and will become a tradition following each edition of the Games.

The ‘Olympic Salute’ will blend time-honored Olympic traditions with a modern touch, emphasizing the values that the Olympic movement represents, according to JOA President Christopher Samuda.

Designed to honor excellence in sport

“It will be yesterday’s quintessential traditions blending with contemporary tastes, with both seated comfortably in the values of sport which we celebrate and give primacy in the Olympic movement,” Samuda explained.

The ceremony, designed to honor excellence in sport, will mark a new way of celebrating Jamaica’s Olympic ambassadors—those athletes who represent the nation with skill, determination, and pride on the world stage.

JOA Secretary General and CEO Ryan Foster highlighted the timeless nature of Olympic success, saying: “Excellence is not time-bound. It is timeless. So, whenever and wherever the JOA observes it, we will applaud with respect and record for posterity while saluting our Olympic ambassadors, those inspired change makers of a great sporting heritage of which the Olympic movement is the cornerstone.”

A white-glove affair of elegance

The event promises a white-glove affair of elegance, but with the true focus remaining on the solemnity and significance of Jamaica’s contributions to the Olympic legacy. President Samuda further underscored the importance of recognizing not just victories, but the spirit of resilience that defines Olympic athletes.

“‘Olympic Salute’ is much more than deserving smiles and golden handshakes. It is a celebration of the mettle, resilience, and gravitas of the Olympic spirit exemplified in historic and gallant performances of our sportsmen and women,” Samuda said, emphasizing that these human qualities matter more than any record-breaking feats or podium finishes.

In alignment with the JOA’s efforts to recognize sporting excellence, the organization will also introduce the Order of Pre-eminence, a prestigious new award that will be the highest honor bestowed by the JOA, reserved for athletes who display extraordinary valor, integrity, and achievement.
