The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has announced the suspension of Leon Bailey’s selection to the senior men’s national team, the Reggae Boyz.
The decision comes in the wake of recent incidents, including the Aston Villa winger’s decision not to participate in the Copa America 2024 team after being selected.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the JFF highlighted Bailey’s previous announcement of wanting to take a break from his national duties as a contributing factor to the suspension. The federation emphasized that this step was taken to prevent any further miscommunication.
JFF refers matter to Disciplinary and Ethics Committee
“The JFF values the contributions of all players and respects their individual decisions regarding national team participation,” the release stated.
The JFF has referred the matter to David Watt, the newly appointed Chairman of the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee, for further review.
Bailey, a key player for both Aston Villa and the Reggae Boyz, has been instrumental in several national team performances. However, his recent decisions have prompted the JFF to take this action to ensure clarity and commitment from all players representing Jamaica.
The suspension of Bailey’s selection is a significant development for the Reggae Boyz as they prepare for upcoming competitions. The JFF’s decision underscores the importance of clear communication and commitment in national team duties.
