The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has issued a statement expressing its sadness and gratitude following the resignation of Cedella Marley as the Global Ambassador of the women’s football program.
Miss Marley’s tenure with the program has spanned over a decade, during which time her support and the contributions of the Bob Marley Foundation have played a pivotal role in the program’s success.
Jamaica’s women’s football program has made remarkable strides, achieving milestones that no other Caribbean team has managed to accomplish. Despite these gains, the JFF acknowledges Miss Marley’s decision to step down from her role.
His disappointment
Michael Ricketts, President of the JFF, expressed his disappointment, stating, “I am saddened by the unfortunate decision of Miss Marley to cut ties with the Women’s Program at this time. We believed we had made significant progress in our discussions, and we were eagerly awaiting the World Cup players to confirm their availability. We must thank Miss Marley and the Bob Marley Foundation for their unwavering support over the years. We want to assure her that the progress we have made will be solidified as we move forward.”
The women’s program, spearheaded by Miss Marley, has played a crucial role in encouraging young girls to consider viable career paths in football as the sport continues to develop globally. Despite her resignation from the global ambassador role, Miss Marley has pledged to continue supporting local women’s football through the “Football is Freedom” initiative. The JFF stands ready to offer any support that might be requested in this regard.
The JFF also extended an open invitation to Miss Marley, expressing its eagerness to welcome her contributions as they continue to develop women’s football in Jamaica and provide a pathway for young girls interested in the sport.
