In the women’s qualifiers, Jamaica’s quartet of Charokee Young, Ashley Williams, Junelle Bromfield, and Roneisha McGregor placed third in their heat with a time of 3:29.03, behind Poland and France. Similarly, Cuba and the Dominican Republic also fell short in their respective heats.

On the men’s side, Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica’s teams finished third in their heats, but only Japan and Germany secured spots in the final, with the United States later disqualified for an infringement.

Despite the setback, the Caribbean teams will have another opportunity to qualify for the Olympics in Round 2 action on Sunday.
