Jamaican contingent led by Hydel High, shines in 4x100m heats at Penn Relays Opening Day

Hydel High School's girls' track and field team displayed their dominance on the opening day of the 128th staging of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field Stadium, University of Pennsylvania, positioning themselves for a potential double victory in the 4x100 meters and 4x400 meters events.
Under the guidance of coach Corey Bennett, the defending champions confidently secured their spots in both event finals. The quartet of Shemonique Hazle, Alliah Baker, Shania Myers, and Jody Ann Daley set the pace with a swift 45.99 seconds in the 4x100m heats, emerging as the fastest qualifiers for the Championship of America 4x100m final.
Joining Hydel High in the 4x100m final are five other Jamaican teams, including Holmwood Technical, St Mary High, St Jago, Edwin Allen, and Wolmer’s Girls, alongside Archbishop John Carroll of Washington, DC, representing the United States.
In the 4x400m event, Hydel High secured the second-fastest qualification time behind Edwin Allen, clocking 3:41.47 minutes in their heat. Other Jamaican teams advancing to the final include St Elizabeth Technical, Vere Technical, and Wolmer’s Girls.
St Jago High continues Jamaica's success
Jade-Ann Dawkins of St Jago High continued Jamaica's success by retaining the triple jump title with a best jump of 13.01 meters. Immaculate's Jaeda Robinson secured second place, while Holmwood's Celine Riddle claimed third.
Shaniqua Williams of Wolmer’s Girls triumphed in the high jump, clearing 1.73 meters, sharing the victory with teammate Danielle Noble.
Looking ahead, competition for high school boys will commence on Friday, featuring the preliminary round of the 4x100m event, with defending champions Jamaica College leading the Jamaican contingent.
Additionally, G C Foster College, the defending men’s 4x200m collegiate champions, will have a packed schedule, including participation in multiple events such as the sprint medley relay final and the preliminary round of the 4x400m.
