The Corey Bennett-coached team which won its first ISSA/GraceKennedy Girls Athletics Championships earlier this month, registered a first victory in the High School Girls’ 4x100m Championship of Americas title.

They later followed up by successfully retaining their High School Girls’ 4x400m Championship of Americas crown.

In the short sprint relays, the quartet of Alana Reid, Oneika McAnnuff, Shemonique Hazle and Alliah Baker stopped the clock at 44.16 seconds to beat Bullis School of Maryland in 45.59 seconds, with St Jago High finishing in third place in 45.98 seconds.

Wolmer’s Girls’ School (52.32 seconds) finished in eighth place and Edwin Allen High School, which was fancied to challenge for top honours, dropped their baton and failed to finish the race.

Hydel High School’s time was the third best ever, only being behind the Penn Relays record holders, Edwin Allen High with the two best times.

Meanwhile, Hydel retained their High School Girls’ 4x400m Championship of Americas title after a dominating performance.

The team of Aaliyah Mullings, McAnnuff, Jodyann Daley and Danniel King clocked 3:35.63 minutes in victory ahead of Edwin Allen in 3:36.20 and Bullis School next in 3:36.25 minutes.

Holmwood Tech was fourth in 3:43.13 minutes and St Catherine High was next in 3:45.03.
