Alfred’s remarkable achievements in 2024, including a historic gold medal win at the Paris Olympics, have earned her a spot at the forefront of the prestigious event, set to take place on October 19, 2024, in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands.

Alfred, who made history by winning Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic medal, will be competing against a strong field of elite athletes from across the Caribbean. Other nominees for the Caribbean Sports Personality of the Year include: Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, the Olympic bronze medalist and 100m hurdles champion; Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic, the World and Olympic 400m champion; Shafiqua Maloney from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; Shanieka Ricketts of Jamaica, a prominent figure in triple jump.

Celebrates excellence

The CANOC Sports Awards, designed to recognize the Caribbean’s top athletes, teams, and sports leaders, celebrates excellence while promoting sustainability in the region’s sports sector. Alfred’s nomination is the latest in a series of accolades she has received throughout 2024, including winning the World Indoors 60m title, the Paris 2024 100m gold, and the Wanda Diamond League 100m championship.

In addition to her sporting accolades, Alfred’s influence continues to grow off the track. She was named Tourism Ambassador for Saint Lucia on September 26, 2024, a testament to her role as a national icon. The island also celebrated Julien Alfred Day on September 27, presenting her with XCD $1,000,000, a 10,720-square-foot plot of land, and announcing the renaming of the Millennium Highway in her honor. A monument in her likeness will also be constructed at the Cul de Sac Roundabout.

The CANOC Sports Awards will highlight Alfred’s incredible achievements, cementing her place as one of the Caribbean’s brightest sports stars.
