The 24th edition of the Reggae Marathon is slated for December 6-8.

The event, which offers a virtual marathon alongside in-person Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K races, continues to draw a diverse array of runners. Participants from 25 to 35 countries typically join each year, attracted by the unique blend of athletic competition and Jamaican culture that the Reggae Marathon is renowned for.

This year marks the introduction of a 5K race, broadening the event’s appeal and allowing more participants to experience the festivities. Race Director Alfred ‘Frano’ Francis expressed excitement about this addition, noting the considerable enthusiasm it has sparked among corporate teams and individual runners alike.

Prices set to increase after July 31

Current registration fees start at JM $5,000 (US $50), with prices set to increase after July 31. The highest fees will be for on-site registration in Negril on December 6-7, with the Half Marathon costing up to JM $10,000 (US $140).

The races will commence at Long Bay Beach Park, situated on Negril’s famous 7-mile white sand beach. The Half Marathon and 10K routes will guide runners through Negril town center and east to Bloody Bay, while the 5K route will head towards Negril’s aerodrome. All races will conclude back at Long Bay Beach Park, on a predominantly flat course certified by the IAAF.

Participants can anticipate a meticulously organized event, featuring numerous support stations, including aid and cooling stations, and reggae music playing at every mile. The race day will culminate in a Victory Beach Party and Awards Ceremony at Long Bay Beach Park.

Additionally, there are special prize categories for high school boys and girls in the 10K and teams in all race distances.

The Reggae Marathon has garnered accolades for its fusion of sport and culture, receiving recognition from the UK’s Men’s Running magazine and the 100 Half Marathons Club of the USA. The event’s combination of well-organized races and celebration of Jamaican music and hospitality continues to attract a broad international audience.
