KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica’s representative in the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup, Frazsiers Whip, endured a crushing 13-0 defeat at the hands of NJ/NY Gotham FC in Group A play on Wednesday at the National Stadium.
Despite their best efforts, Frazsiers Whip struggled to keep pace with the vastly more experienced Gotham FC side, who wasted little time asserting their dominance. Yazmeen Ryan opened the scoring in the 13th minute and quickly doubled her tally just five minutes later. Gotham’s Mandy Freeman added a third in the 39th minute, putting the visitors firmly in control. A stoppage-time rebound goal from Cece Kizer stretched Gotham’s lead to 4-0 by halftime.
The second half saw Gotham continue their relentless attack, with Jenna Nighswonger adding a fifth goal in the 47th minute. Taryn Torres, coming off the bench, struck twice in quick succession in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to extend Gotham’s commanding lead to 7-0.
Frazsiers Whip, a young and inexperienced side with many players having never competed internationally, displayed moments of courage but could not withstand Gotham’s barrage. Lynn Williams and Jéssica Silva added two more goals in the 82nd and 84th minutes, while a defensive mishap resulted in an own goal from Nevillegail Able in the 85th minute.
Hat-tricks
Williams completed her hat-trick with strikes in the 86th and 90th+3 minutes, while Ryan also sealed a hat-trick with a goal in the 90th+2 minute, rounding out Gotham’s emphatic 13-0 victory.
The defeat ends Frazsiers Whip’s campaign, with the team suffering four losses in their four group-stage matches. Reflecting on the result, Frazsiers Whip’s Suen Gregory remained hopeful for the future, acknowledging the team’s inexperience but expressing optimism about competing again next year.
“This is the first time we are participating in this competition, and I think we could do much more, but we will go again,” Gregory said. She also noted the team’s youth, with many players coming from the schoolgirls league and having little exposure to international football.
Meanwhile, Gotham FC, sitting atop Group A with two wins and a draw, will return to the United States to face Tigres UANL Femenil at Red Bull Arena on October 16.
