Fraser McConnell sweeps Denmark, slashes title gap to 2 points

Jamaican rallycross ace Fraser McConnell delivered a weekend masterclass at the RallyX double-header in Nysum, claiming back-to-back FC2 victories that have rocketed him into serious championship contention with just one round remaining.

Racing on familiar ground — the same Danish track where he famously claimed his first Supercar win in 2021 against seven-time FIA World Champion Johan Kristoffersson — McConnell showed from the outset that he had arrived with only one goal: to win. As the only repeat venue of his 2025 campaign, Nysum proved the perfect stage for his resurgence.

Day 1: A long-awaited top step

The fireworks began on Saturday, August 2, when McConnell stunned the field in Q2 with an audacious “around the outside” maneuver from P4 to P1 at the first corner. Holding the lead to the checkered flag, he posted the fastest time of the session. After three consistent qualifying heats, he ranked third overall — behind only the Supercars of Ulrik Linnemann and Kobe Vranckx — and topped the FC2 class.

In the semi-final, he repeated the outside pass from P2 to the lead, this time making it stick all the way to victory. Starting from pole in the FC2 Final, McConnell produced a flawless run to secure his first Top Step finish of the 2025 season.

“It was great to finally get that first place monkey off my back,” McConnell said. “I’ve had several podiums this season but nothing is as sweet as the Top Step.”

The day ended on a bittersweet note when heavy rain and treacherous conditions in the Open 4WD class sent him off track on the final lap after battling into third. But the setback did little to dim his focus for Sunday.

Day 2: Commanding from start to finish

On Sunday, August 3, McConnell returned even sharper. He opened with a P4 in Q1, then dominated Q2 from lights to flag to set up a high-profile Q3 clash with Danish crowd favorite Linnemann. McConnell got the jump and led most of the way before Linnemann snatched the heat win in the final moments via a perfectly executed joker lap.

Even so, McConnell ended the qualifying rounds second overall and first in the FC2 class, ensuring pole for the semi-final. Once again, he controlled the race from start to finish, converting pole into another semi-final win.

In the FC2 Final, McConnell was untouchable. From the green light to the checkered flag, he delivered a wire-to-wire victory, completing a clean sweep of the Danish double-header and cementing his title challenge.

Championship shake-up and the road ahead

The twin victories in Nysum transformed McConnell’s title prospects, elevating him from a distant third in the standings to just two points behind teammate and season-long leader Casper Jansson.

With momentum firmly in his corner, McConnell now heads to Estering, Germany, for the August 9–10 season finale — another double-header — where the 2025 RallyX Championship will be decided in what promises to be a thrilling showdown.
