Jamaican racing star Fraser McConnell is set for another high-octane weekend as he prepares for Rounds 3 and 4 of the Nitrocross championship, taking place on October 5 and 6 in Utah.
Fresh off a stellar start to the season, McConnell currently sits in second place in the overall standings, trailing leader Kevin Eriksson by just 11 points.
McConnell delivered a dominant performance in the opening rounds at Richmond Raceway in Virginia on September 7 and 8, securing a third-place finish in Round 1 and battling fiercely for first in Round 2. He claimed the top qualifying spot and won his semi-final, starting the Round 2 final in pole position. Despite leading early on, a slight misstep allowed Eriksson to claim the victory, with McConnell finishing a close second.
Excitement
Reflecting on his upcoming races, McConnell shared his excitement: “I’m really looking forward to this weekend, going back to Utah, the birthplace of Nitrocross. It all started there with the Nitro World Games in 2018 and 2019, so it’s a special place for everyone involved.”
He also acknowledged the challenges of the Utah track, renowned for its big jumps and tricky corners. “Salt Lake is one of the craziest tracks on the calendar, with the biggest gap jump and a lot of demanding corners. It requires high speed from us drivers, but I’ll just go out there, hit my marks, and give it everything, while proudly repping Jamaica.”
With back-to-back podium finishes, McConnell is confident about maintaining his momentum. “We’re second in the championship with 107 points, and I’m looking forward to continuing that streak this weekend,” he said. McConnell currently holds a four-point advantage over defending champion Robin Larsson and is keen to close the gap on Eriksson.
McConnell’s 2024 season is supported by sponsors JustBet, Proven, Tru Shake, Rainforest, and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
