The 32-year-old’s announcement follows his departure from Real Madrid, where a series of injuries limited his overall impact on the field.

The popular Belgian attacking midfielder had already retired from international soccer after his country’s team was eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage last year.

A rocky stint with Real Madrid

Despite a grand £89-million-pound transfer from Chelsea in 2019, Hazard struggled to replicate his sterling performances from previous years due to persistent injuries.

Over four seasons, he only managed to grace the field in 76 matches across all competitions.

Contrasting his time in Spain, Hazard’s tenure with Chelsea FC was nothing short of spectacular.

From 2012 to 2019, he not only celebrated winning the Premier League and Europa League twice but also hoisted the FA and League Cup trophies.

During these glorious years, Hazard was an indispensable asset to Chelsea, showcasing his talent and contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Despite the setbacks, Hazard’s career is adorned with notable achievements and accolades.

Along with the two Premier League titles, he also helped Chelsea win the Europa League twice, and the FA Cup and League Cup once.

Heartfelt farewell

In his farewell message, he expressed gratitude to those who contributed to his journey.

“During my career I was lucky to meet great managers, coaches and teammates — thank you to everyone for these great times, I will miss you all,” Hazard said. “I also want to thank the clubs I have played for: LOSC, Chelsea and Real Madrid; and thank the RBFA for my Belgian selection.”

Looking back with gratitude

Hazard’s career, filled with highs and lows, is a testament to his dedication and love for football. Through injuries and triumphs, he has left an indelible mark on the sport, providing fans with countless moments of joy and excitement.

At the international level, he made his debut with the national team in 2008 at the age of 17.

The well-loved player made 126 appearances and scored 33 goals.
