A staggering 155 competitors gathered under sweltering heat, battling gusty winds and humidity in one of the most challenging events of the year.

The fiercely competitive day culminated in a nail-biting shoot-off, crowning Craig Simpson as the highest overall winner. Meanwhile, the ever-determined Aliana McMaster defended her Ladies’ title, solidifying her growing reputation as a rising star in the sport.

Simpson outshoots rivals in thrilling finale

Craig Simpson emerged victorious after a dramatic three-way shoot-off with seasoned challengers Shaun Barnes and Chad Ziadie. Demonstrating unerring precision, Simpson struck seven of eight targets to secure the top honor.

“Always an amazing feeling to win,” Simpson shared. “The conditions were tough, but the scores were respectable. Competing against Shaun and Chad, two credible competitors, and coming out on top was incredibly rewarding.”

Barnes claimed runner-up, hitting five targets, while Ziadie, with four hits, earned the A-Class title.

McMaster shines bright among women

The Ladies category saw Aliana McMaster shooting her way to victory with an impressive score of 86. Close behind was Wendy McMaster with 83, followed by Lori-Ann Harris at 79.

Reflecting on her win, McMaster expressed gratitude and pride. “It feels good to come back and defend my title. Even after a challenging year, I’m growing, improving, and proving that young women can excel in this sport.”

A festival of sporting excellence

With shooting stations strategically positioned to frame picturesque views of the sea, competitors faced a series of expertly crafted challenges. Each class showcased exceptional performances:

B Class: Brandon Laing (83); C Class: Brian Kong (83); D Class: Max Williams (81); E Class: Ted Palmer (75); Hunters/Beginner Class: Liam McConnell (79); Juniors: Aliana McMaster (86); Sub Juniors: Craig Powell Jr. (65).

Club President Sean Clacken praised the event’s execution and growing popularity. “This year’s tournament saw one of the largest turnouts, with 155 participants, up from 137 last year. Listening to feedback, we adjusted the course to balance shorter walking distances with more challenging targets, and the results speak for themselves.”

A testament to its community spirit, the tournament raised $350,000 to provide a desperately needed photocopy machine for Portland Cottage Primary School. Clacken credited the event’s success to major sponsors, including First Rock Group, Century 21, Ultra Financier, and Optimum Distributors.
